synchronous with the studies conducted at the facility, the building itself demonstrates homeostatic properties of living organisms reacting continuously to changing environmental conditions. the shell consists of long bands of reinforced concrete and interwoven operable bands composed of tensioned fabric strips. the strips perform as shading devices which are both powered and controlled by the thermal expansion of the structural beams that support them.
